Sockeye Salmon Swim

August 3, 2019 - August 4, 2019

Every year sockeye salmon swim through the clear waters of Chilliwack lake to begin their journey to the upper Chilliwack River to spawn. These are beautiful fish, and there is something truly majestic about salmon pulled from the safety of the ocean by an instinct deeper than we can understand. Their strength and tenacity is awe inspiring.

This is an all-day adventure and carpooling is encouraged. It’s approximately a 3 hour trip from Vancouver and then a 1.2 km along a flat path to the beach where we set up. Participants need to carry in water, food, and gear; sneakers or hiking shoes are recommended. There are no facilities but there are plenty of large trees for shade.

This session is open to swimmers, snorkelers, freedivers, and people that like splashing around or floating – bring your underwater camera!

Equipment required is an exposure suit (wet or dry), fins, mask, and snorkel. Be aware – the water is cold! Wear appropriate gear including socks, gloves, and hood.

Cost is $50.00 per participant, with carpooling and meeting times finalized closer to the event.
