Join the Ocean Quest crew for a fun weekend of diving and underwater clean up on the Sunshine Coast!’
April 28 and 29, 2018
April 28 – Dive at Tuwanek – We will start the weekend off with a couple of dives at Tuwanek just out of Sechelt. Tuwanek is a fantastic dive site which is know for its often tremendous visibility and tremendous marine life. Octos and wolfeels are commonly sighted at Tuwanek!
April 29 – Underwater Cleanup at Irvine’s Landing – In support of the Pender Harbour Ocean Discovery Station (PODS), Ocean Quest is organizing an underwater cleanup at the site of this future Marine Research Station. There will be a Bar-B-Q and Bonfire and lot’s of fun!
The Pender Harbour Ocean Discovery Station (PODS) is an innovative new marine and freshwater research and education facility to be located in Pender Harbour on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, just 100 kilometres north of Vancouver.
Local, national and international researchers will find practical support from PODS in their studies of marine and freshwater ecosystems in our region. Research will focus on environmental health, preserving species-at-risk, maintaining and enhancing biodiversity, and clarifying ecosystem responses to climate change and ocean acidification.
- Registration is required for this event.
- If you need to rent equipment, you will want to contact Ocean Quest as soon as possible to reserve equipment. Note that you will need to bring at least 3 tanks (2 for Tuwanek and 1 for the underwater cleanup) as there are no fill stations on the Sunshine Coast.
- We will be catching the the 9:45 ferry from the Horseshoe Bay Terminal arriving at Tuwanek around 11:30 am.
Accommodation – Pender Harbour Resort and Marina has generously offered reasonable accommodation to support this event. Book a night for only $69.00 including tax (based on double occupancy). Private Room for $138.00 including tax. You can book your room through Ocean Quest. If you need a room-mate, we will match you up with another diver.
